THE GLASTONBURY UKULELE CLUB
Purpose: For ukulele enthusiasts of all ages and abilities to meet regularly to play songs, share techniques, and, hopefully, learn a thing or two.
Who: Anyone who plays the ukulele, or wants to learn to play. We invite frustrated or "lapsed" guitarists of any ability to see how easy it is to play your favorite songs on the ukulele. For those without instruments, ukuleles will be available for “testing the waters” at meetings.
When: The June meeting will be Saturday, June 27th. Beginners from 9:45am to 11:00am. Regular meeting from 11am to 1pm. We usually meet the last Saturday of every month.
Where: Riverfront Community Center, 300 Welles Street, Glastonbury, CT
Why: Because it’s fun, it’s free, and, simply put, “it can change your life.”
THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE JUNE 27th. As always, beginners from 9:45am to 11:00am. Regular meeting from 11am to 1pm.
PLEASE NOTE: OUR CLUB MEETINGS ARE NOW AT A NEW LOCATION: GLASTONBURY'S RIVERFRONT COMMUNITY CENTER, 300 WELLES STREET, GLASTONBURY, CT ALSO, THE FORMAT OF THE MEETINGS HAS CHANGED SOMEWHAT: 9:45-11 FOR BEGINNERS, 11-12 FOR GOING OVER THE SONGS LISTED ON THE WEBSITE, AND FROM 12-1 WE PLAY (THE SONGS THAT WE'VE PRACTICED) FOR A COMMUNITY SINGALONG CALLED "GLASTONBURY'S BIG SING"
For transposing table, download the TRANSPOSING TABLE and practice transposing music into familiar and/or singable keys. Another transposing tool that is excellent is this online transposing wheel: TRANSPOSING WHEEL
For the Circle of Fifths (or Fourths)-Remember the uplifting story of the Native American, George, who could fish, by using his beads as bait: "BEAD, George Can Fish, Bb": http://ukuke.co.uk/downloadables.htm (scroll down to the circle)
The following are the songs that we will play at the June meeting. Download the songs, practice them, and bring them to the meeting. We will play them in the following order. Bring a music stand, because at the new location we do not have use of tables.
Songs for beginners: (see the BEGINNERS' section)
PHEW!  PRACTICE!
