6A and 6B
Welcome to the Gideon Welles 6th grade ukulele class for 2008! I look forward to working with you so that you can enjoy playing and singing for many years to come. Please start with the following songs. If you find it difficult to sing and strum at the same time, try to master the chords and strumming first.
The next class is Friday, May 9th. For an extra lesson this month, come to the next meeting of the Glastonbury Ukulele Club, Saturday, May 31st. Come from 10-11am for the lesson, and stay and singalong with the club from 11-1, if you like.
JOKE OF THE WEEK:
What's the difference between a ukulele and a trampoline?
Ans: You remove your shoes before you jump on a trampoline.
If you cannot tune the ukulele by yourself, or with the help of your family, please bring the instrument in to Mrs. Burr. She will help you.
The following songs are the ones we will all play together for the Evening of Excellence on Thursday, June 5 (but not necessarily in this order):
- He's Got the Whole World C * s (slow)    BAR-2 chord song in the key of C
- Clementine * s (slow)   BAR-2 chord song in the key of F
- All Shook Up s   BAR
- Tiny Bubbles * s   BAR
- I'm a Believer C * s   BAR
- Bye Bye Love * s   BAR
- O Susanna C * s   BAR
- Yes Sir, That's My Baby * s   BAR

Don't forget to fill out and return the questionnaire with name, e-mail address, etc. Also, you need to purchase a ukulele soon, so show the information sheet to your parents, and have them call me if they have questions.
POINTS TO REMEMBER!
- Keep your left thumb low in back of the neck.
- Strum over the fingerboard, not over the sound hole.
- Cut fingernails of the left hand short.
- Hold the ukulele so that the end hits your right inner biceps muscle and your forearm crosses the uke's lower right.
- Practice your strumming away from the ukulele, for example, in the car, on your seat belt.
- Practice chord changes when you can, for example, during a television program, or at least during the commercials.
